Gay Men's Connect and Grow Group

Why?

Many gay men, particularly those who feel the bulk of our party days may be behind us, yearn for real connection and a sense of community with other gay men.  This group creates a space for exactly that.

What?

The Connect and Grow group is a two-hour, facilitated fortnightly group.  We will include elements such as mindfulness and 'psycho-education' presentations, which will introduce topics for discussion that are relevant for our psychological health and wellbeing.  The group will then discuss the topic and anything else members want to address.

How?

One of the most important features of the group will be the sense of safety and inclusion that it is able to achieve, as this will determine how much of themselves members feel they can bring into it.  My intention will be to facilitate the group in a manner that fosters both respect and honesty.  The topics we will cover are intended to encourage members to connect with and share the deeper and sometimes more vulnerable parts of themselves, but in a way that allows them to fully participate at a level at which they are most comfortable.  As the group progresses and matures over time, levels of connectedness and intimacy will grow and deepen.  My hope is that group members will form bonds and friendships that they will take with them at the conclusion of the ten sessions.

Where, when and how much?

Connect and Grow will run fortnightly in Surry Hills on Thursday evenings from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, beginning Thursday 22 April 2021.   The ten fortnightly sessions will conclude on 26 August 2021.  The cost will be $50 per session.  While members may not be able to attend every session, a real commitment to attend as many as possible is important.
